 What are the opening hours of the clinic?

LIVERPOOL

Opening hours of our drop in pre-travel clinic are:

Monday-Friday (08:30am doors open) 08:45am – Noon

Opening hours of our pre-travel appointment service are:

Monday and Wednesday 14:00 to 15:30
Tuesday and Thursday 14:00 to 18:00

 How soon before travelling do I need to visit the clinic?

For overseas travel that will last more than a month it is best to visit the travel clinic at least 4-5 weeks before travelling. (This is because some vaccine courses take four weeks to complete). For shorter trips visit at least 2 - 3 weeks before travelling. However it's worth getting seen even on the day before you travel if necessary, in order to try to reduce your risk of catching infectious diseases whilst abroad.

 What vaccines do I need for my trip?

Recommendations on which vaccines/malaria tablets may be required and the health advice given will vary considerably depending on:

• The countries you are visiting
• The type of travel (e.g. tourist, back-packing, remote destinations)
• Your type of accommodation
• Whether you are undertaking any high risk activities whilst on holiday
• Whether you will be living or working abroad.

Because advice varies so much we recommend that you come in to talk to one of our travel health advisors who will be able to give you individually-tailored advice and information about:

• The travel health risks at your chosen destination
• The vaccines recommended for your trip
• Whether malaria is a problem where you are going and what tablets you need to take
• The challenges of travelling with children, whilst pregnant or with pre-existing health problems

We do not carry out telephone consultations regarding vaccine requirements or malaria tablets. This is for safety reasons, as information can be misunderstood or misinterpreted.

 When do my vaccines need boosting?

All vaccines have different boosting requirements. Please look at the schedule attached below for information related to each individual vaccine. We can give all the vaccines listed at our clinics. The vaccine schedules detailed are those recommended by the vaccine manufacturers.

Even if you are travelling at short notice or have left you travel health needs to the last minute and think you do not have time for vaccination, come and see us in the clinic. Many vaccines can be given at short notice or schedules shortened to accommodate your travel plans.

 Why doesn't my GP provide me with the vaccines and malaria tablets for free?

Unless your GP has informed the Primary Care Trust that they have opted out of providing travel health services they should provide travel health information and be able to administer certain vaccines. However, if you are travelling at short notice it may be difficult for a GP practice to provide you with a suitable appointment.

Your GP practice may not be able to provide you with specialist vaccines such as Yellow Fever, Tick Borne Encephalitis or Rabies.

 I have lost my Yellow Fever Certificate what should I do?

If you received your vaccination from our clinic we can issue a replacement certificate. The charge for duplicate certificates is £15.00.

If you have lost your yellow fever certificate and you had your yellow fever vaccine somewhere else, we can still issue you with a new certificate if you have all the information relating to the original vaccine on a clinic letterhead or formal documentation from where you originally received the vaccine.

When requesting a duplicate certificate please provide the following:

• If received from this clinic, then the year of your last visit to the travel clinic
• Year of vaccination
• Destination at that time
• Full name at that time
• Address at that time
• Present address
• DoB
• Cheque for £15 made payable to Well Travelled Clinics Ltd

  I am pregnant / breastfeeding and I am visiting a risk area for malaria, what tablets can I take?

There are some malaria tablets that are suitable for taking during pregnancy and whilst breast-feeding. Our staff are extremely experienced in dealing with travellers with special health needs, including expectant and breastfeeding mothers, so come in and talk to one of our advisors.

 I am travelling with a child and a baby. What malaria tablets can they take?

There are several malaria tablets/syrups that are suitable for babies, young children and teens. One of the main challenges in giving malaria prevention tablets to young children is actually getting them to take it. Our staff are experienced at dealing with young children and can give you good advice on how to get your child to take malaria tablets, so come in and talk to one of our advisors.  I am going on a cruise, do I need malaria tablets?

You may need malaria tablets if you are going on a cruise, it depends on whether you are staying overnight in ports in any malarial endemic areas. Our travel health nurses will be able to advise you whether malaria tablets are required at any of the ports you will be visiting. All cruise passengers should take appropriate bite avoidance measures

 Where is the nearest car park?

LIVERPOOL - The nearest car park is the Liverpool University Visitors Car Park, which is located in Brownlow Street between the Foresight Centre and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

The city council run pay and display off-street car parks at Craven Street behind the T.J Hughes store. There are four small car parks at this location, which offer relatively close access to the travel clinic by walking through to London Road, then up to the clinic in Pembroke Place. There are two other city council car parks near to London Road at Kempston Street and Finch Place.

Parking is also available at the Q-Park situated opposite the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in Prescot Street. www.q-park.co.uk

There are also quite a number of on-street pay and display spaces in the side streets in the area around London Road and Pembroke Place.

CHESTER - The nearest car park is situated near to The Crowne Plaza Hotel/St Martins Way. On leaving the car park turn right and walk past The Guildhall, on your right, at the end of the lane turn left into Watergate Street and continue walking towards The Cross, the clinic is situated in the rows above Phase Eight – look for the blue door.
